Award-winning classical artists TONUS PEREGRINUS apply their unique a cappella treatment to
Roland Orzabal’s iconic 80s pop song, Mad World
a CD.TP exclusive on iTunes

Director and arranger Antony Pitts says: “Mad World was the first song that the band I was in at school tried to cover. Fortunately that version never made recorded history, but the melodies and harmony of the song have remained with me ever since. Mad World sounds very English to me and I can hear all sorts of resonances with the 15th- and 16th-century English choral music that I love and which TONUS PEREGRINUS has been singing since we started in Oxford in 1990.”

TONUS PEREGRINUS debut album of Arvo Pärt’s Passio was released on Naxos and went to No.1 in the classical charts. Both Passio and a subsequent release on Hyperion of Antony Pitts’s Seven Letters were The Gramophone Editor’s Choices. TONUS PEREGRINUS has recorded a series of milestones of Western music for Naxos including the first opera, the first music in four parts, and the first sounds of the Renaissance. In December 2006 TONUS PEREGRINUS was privileged to sing at the memorial for former audience member Alexander Litvinenko.

This Mad World E.P. is available exclusively through iTunes and features two additional tracks – a new setting of George Herbert’s The Flower and an extract from a cycle of music by Antony Pitts which will be given its world première in London on Saturday 19 May at the London Festival of Contemporary Church Music
