musicGPS is the first step in our project to map the musical universe -
musicDNA.  musicDNA is a new way of discovering and navigating information
and content.  Travel through the world of pop, jazz, classical, zooming in
for more detail and out for less, focusing on what you're interested in and
filtering out what you're not.  Follow the timeline of any piece of music -
when it was written, who's performed it, who's listening to it right now.
What Flickr does for photos and Twitter does for messaging, musicDNA does
for music, musicians, and music-making, turning them into social objects.
As Google Earth lets you explore the planet and push-pin your favourite
places and journeys, so musicDNA will let you explore the musical landscape,

musicDNA and musicGPS are provided by joint partners Pensive SA
(www.pensive.eu) and CTU.  CTU is a research and design team who have
collaborated as individuals at the BBC, at Unknown Public, and at the Royal
Academy of Music in London.  The musicDNA project stems from a long-standing
research interest in the nature of musical, historical, and aesthetic time,
and is about understanding and mapping the essential structure of musical
events and resources in order to be able to visualize and navigate through
this powerfully rich semantic space.   In collaboration with a third
partner, NetworkedPlanet (http://www.networkedplanet.com/), musicGPS and
musicDNA are opening up new ways of creating social objects from music,
musicians, and music-making.
