This month: get ready for a computer revolution in Oslo or simply download a beta version of the vocal score of the oratorio 'Jerusalem-
Yerushalayim'...

"TONUS PEREGRINUS is proving to be one of the most skilful vocal groups around....  Pitts shows considerable ingenuity and flair in his settings of sacred texts, which include The Peace of Jerusalem, Sanctus and Benedictus, A Thousand Years and the totally captivating My Dove.  The outstanding work is The 'I AM' Sayings of Jesus....  The moods range from the austere to the ecstatic, from the simplistic to a dissonant but ordered turmoil – it's a remarkable achievement."
CHOIR & ORGAN, February 2008

"One of the things that makes the sacred a cappella work of Antony Pitts (born 1969) stand out from that of the many excellent emerging choral composers of his generation is his fearless defiance of harmonic and melodic conventions; just when you think he's heading for an easy landing, he veers off into unexpected, exhilaratingly wild territory.... In the double quartet that he conducts, TONUS PEREGRINUS, Pitts has assembled an ensemble for which he can write with impunity.  Their ability to negotiate the music's extreme demands is staggering, and they do it with wonderfully pure tone, warm blend, and impassioned expressiveness.  Pitts is a composer to watch out for: these remarkably assured and compelling works should be strong interest to any fan of contemporary choral music."

"This is a most successful recording, TONUS PEREGRINUS never wearied by the vastness of its task and the vision of Christ always palpable in the composer's creative insights."

*JERUSALEM-YERUSHALAYIM* study vocal score available for £0.01:
http://shop.thewelcomestranger.org/index.asp?function=CART&mode=ADD&productid=113 (this beta version is even cheaper - free - if you're buying anything else at shop.thewelcomestranger.org); alternatively, write to me...
The first performance of the chamber version is scheduled for Sunday 8 June in Down Cathedral, Northern Ireland - if you're interested in performing some or all of it, or putting on a performance locally, let me know.
Some people have asked about commissioning part of the oratorio at this late stage; more than three-quarters of the composition have been paid for, but there still remains the orchestration to be done over the next few months - so it's not too late.

Please note: this beta version of the vocal score does not include the choral coda 'The Peace of Jerusalem' which is already available separately:

WEDNESDAY 2 - FRIDAY 4 APRIL *Topic Maps 2008*
The Second International Topic Maps Users Conference:
Towards the Vision of Subject-Centric Computing
"The vision of subject-centric computing is heralding a paradigm shift in how we use computers to manage information and knowledge.  The basic idea is simple: Organize information in terms of what it is about and it will be easier to integrate, reuse and share – and (not least) easier for users to find.  An increased awareness of the importance of metadata and ontologies and a growing interest in semantic interoperability are part and parcel of the new trend towards subject-centric computing.  This conference brings together these disparate threads by focusing on an open international standard that is subject-centric to its very core: ISO 13250 Topic Maps.
Join us in Oslo for three days of tutorials, case studies, technical discussions and exhibitions to learn how Topic Maps and the vision of subject-centric computing is being applied around the world to solve problems of information and knowledge management."
